Burrell Foley Fischer have prepared a masterplan for UWC Atlantic College. The college estate comprises 160 acres with a medieval castle at its heart and a foreshore on the Bristol Channel. The curtilage listing of the estate is Grade I. The remodelling of the Grade II listed Cavalry Barracks provides accommodation for a Pre-International Baccalaureate course (Pre IB) at UWC Atlantic College. The refurbished building provides dormitories, general teaching accommodation and a parent’s house with minimum impact on existing accommodation. The main change required was to weather the open colonnade between the dormitories and the communal toilets and showers. In order to minimise impact of the setting of the Cavalry Barracks, a frameless glazed screen was installed behind the line of the timber columns, with the existing stone flags retained.
