Ian Munton
BSc Architecture BArch(Hons) ARB

Director

Ian is a Director in the practice and has over ten years experience as a Project Architect. He has experience in early years learning, primary education, community architecture, residential and healthcare projects. One-off buildings have included an autistic children’s home, a new build church and the delivery of a LFB fire station. His experience includes the repair and conservation and extension of existing and listed buildings.

Throughout his career Ian has shown an open and considered approach to design. One of his strengths is his experience over a range of sectors and budgets ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of millions of pounds and his ability to cross over these sectors. Ian is an engaging team leader and enjoys working with clients to develop practical solutions that respond to and deliver their aspirations. A great believer in the contribution of the wider community in architecture, he recognises the consultation process as vital and important.

He is experienced at all levels of projects from inception to completion including Brief Formulating, Feasibility Studies, Planning Applications and Listed Building Consents, Scheme Design & Development, Detail Development, BREEAM evidence submission, Specification Writing & Tendering and Contract Administration.

Ian was the Project Architect for a new Performing Arts Centre at Sherborne Girls. A magnificent new facility that includes a 500 seat concert hall; practice rooms; a recording studio and multi-use social spaces which have spectacular views across the playing fields. He led the refurbishment and remodelling of the Grade I, II* and II Listed York Guildhall on site. The project delivered comprehensive conservation repairs alongside sympathetic new extensions, providing space and support for entrepreneurs and start-up businesses, events, and civic ceremonies together with a café, and riverside restaurant.

He is currently working with the Chamberlain Highbury Trust to restore the Grade II* listed building and historic grounds and with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council on designs for a new Sandbanks Pavilion. The designs will retain the glamour of the Pavilion, as a showpiece at this resort, and optimise the views from this premier location, both into Poole Harbour, and out to sea.
