The dance school’s success, at the time the largest school for contemporary dance in the world, meant it had outgrown its current premises. It had 350 full-time students studying dance at all levels up to MA. However, it was based in an old primary school where many of the dance studios were dark, windowless spaces.

Laban worked with Burrell Foley Fischer to draw up a brief for a new centre. As part of the studies, we visited dance centres in Hong Kong and Taiwan to see how others had met the challenge.
