Lord’s Cricket Ground Mound Stand

Hospitality suites and rooftop bar at iconic sports ground

Client: Marylebone Cricket Club
Location: Westminster, London
Status: Complete

The refurbishment and remodelling of the hospitality areas within the Mound Stand at Lords Cricket Club is the latest in a series of projects Burrell Foley Fischer have designed for the “home of cricket”. The first refurbished the public bar and catering facilities in the iconic Mound Stand, designed in 1987 by Sir Michael Hopkins. An extension was added to the stand to house a passenger lift, improving accessibility for all. BFF were subsequently architects of the refurbishment of the Grand Stand at Lord’s. The project involved the refurbishment of their main bar and catering facilities, including the ECB Box and the Father Time Bar.

  • Our most recent project at the Cricket Ground, as part of their ongoing refurbishment and reinvention programme, was once again in the Mound Stand. The Executive suites in the stand were refurbished ready for the 2023 season including kitchenettes, toilets, access corridors and the Willow Suite with bar and seating.

The brief was to provide new luxury pitch-facing suites offering an informal and relaxed atmosphere in a private or shared environment. The remodelling provides a mix of standard single boxes, able to host 12 spectators, up to the flagship Willow Suite, suitable for up to 40 guests.  The project playfully refers to the traditional materials associated with cricket: the stitched leather and the willow and provides a comfortable spectator environment for the home of cricket.

“Burrell Foley Fischer were appointed to carry out the design work for the refurbishment of our Mound Stand level 2 suites and washrooms. The Project involved internal fit out including M&E works with new air conditioning and LED lighting to meet our sustainability policy.

We worked closely with Helen and found her to be thoughtful and professional throughout the project. The project was delivered on time and within budget. Our clients for the 2023 cricket season were impressed by the project and have extended their leases to the suites.”
