Zeinab Rahal

Since joining BFF in 2014, Zeinab has completed her professional qualification exams in architecture with the Practice. She has worked on a range of projects in the cultural, performing arts, equestrian and education sectors reflecting the diversity within the practice. Her vision, sensitivity to environments, dedication, thoughtfulness and ability to drive detailed process has seen her be promoted to Associate.

Zeinab was Project Architect for the expansion of Urswick school in Hackney providing a new teaching block including classrooms, ICT facilities and SEND facilities. The project was designed to BIM level 2 (Building Information Modelling) and Zeinab has spearheaded the adoption of BIM protocols in the practice. 

Her other educational sector experience includes: DARTeC, at Cranfield University, a £7.5million award winning new build research facility which provides a flexible research environment which is protected from, and yet accessible to, a live airport; and Hurstpierpoint College, a new build £4.5million Performing Arts Centre including a flexible courtyard theatre. Zeinab is currently working with the University of Brighton on a series of projects as part of a Masterplan produced by BFF, the first of which are major refurbishments to form new facilities for the School of Humanities and Social Science and the School of Sport and Health Sciences.

Zeinab has experience of projects involving the conservation of Listed Buildings, including the refurbishment and remodelling of the York Guildhall complex, Listed Grade I, II* and II, to provide flexible workspace and business support for entrepreneurs and start-ups through the University of York. Her current work includes the Kidderminster Creative Hub, the transformation of a Listed Grade II former carpet factory, partially converted to a Magistrates Court courthouse in 1971 and then abandoned in 2002, into a new community, cultural and creative hub. The project includes the conservation of over 3,000 sq ft of cast iron structures in the former Weaving Sheds.

Zeinab has a rigorous approach to design development and participates in compliance reviews across the practice for a range of sectors whilst always maintaining her ability to understand the commercial realities of all projects. She knows how to work cohesively within a team but can also lead where necessary.
